need help with old shotgun
« on: January 23, 2009, 04:55:14 PM »
hello, picked  up and old stevens 59 b a couple of years ago on the cheap...410 ga ....refinished the stock and it looks good........this bolt action is a repeater......it has a tube similiar to a 22 tube under the barrel......brass tube inside a metal tube...........hold only 2 shels though....there is a band conecting the barrel and the tube at the end of the tube.......the metal tube goes into the receiver only about 1/4 of an inch........problem  is when i shoot it or during the hunt the bottom tube slides out of the receiver just barely.  but enough that the shells in the tube will not feed any more..i then have to use it as a single shot or unscrew the action from the stock and fix it temporaly......i have that band as tight as it will go.........i am thinking of epoxing the 1/4 inch but am at a loss as to what to use.....i know jb weld would solve my problem but who knows i may want to take the metal tube out one day and jb weld is permanate....probly will not nned to but you never know......what about a clear epoxy?....any suggestions???...thnaks mack

I think I would probably just drill a little hole through the band catching the wall of the tube and put a pin in it.  Larry

tube wall is very thin and plus the brass tube has to slide in and out of it....i would think the only option maybe some type of epoxy but i could be wrong...mack

Epoxy or solder would be my guess.  Maybe a set screw.
