Pic of my newest 700
« on: January 16, 2009, 09:34:02 AM »

The top is my "old" 700LTR in .223 , bought new in late 2005. And on the bottom is my 700VLS Thumbhole . also in .223 that I picked up in Oct. of last year. It does look different today as I have installed it in my HS stock. It is also the first stainless 700 I have owned.

The new versions of this rifle are listed as the VLSS . Mine must have been one of the early versions since it is listed as VLS Thumbhole on the box end and in fact is equipped with the old style 700 trigger. It will be interesting to find out how  the accuracy compares to my 700LTR which has been the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. Anyone else have a stainless 700 Varmint style rifle?

I have an SPS Varmint in .22-250 with a somewhat-rare stainless barrel (X-Pro trigger.) Lower-end than yours, but still a shooter. Got it with the intention of putting on a nice wood stock. What does yours weigh?
Altough not a true "varmint" rifle, I also have a .204 LVSF. Another nice one.
Can't beat those Rem. 700s.

The quality of a mans life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work!!

According to Remington's website specs the VLSS Thumbhole is an avg. weight of 9 1/8 lbs.

Yes , I have not decided if I will use it later or not. I've had excellent results with the HS stock combined with my SPS Varmint so I decided that I would just try the VLS in the HS stock right from the start. The SPS is in a Bell&Carlson Medalist for now.
