I'd personally go for both the VZ24 and the M24/47.  Trust me you'll end up buying both anyway.  Another yugo mauser to have if you haven't got one yet is the yugo model 98 too its actually a german 98k with the german markings ground off and the yugo markings put on it. I haven't seen many of the yugo m48's lately too. These were offered in unissued condition at one time too.

Prices? Condition?

Both......my 24/47 is a tack driver and the Vz' are ultra smooth....... The Vz is a short barreled Mauser the 24/47 is a longer version.

Both of course, if you can't do both which one fells better on the Pull up?

Let me correct myself, the VZ24 and 24/47 are the same barrel length and overall length.  My memory lapsed......played with both VZ's last night and the 24/47...get them ALL.  I have never regreted buying in BULK.

I currently have the 24/47 and it got me started on the mil-surp bug (or more likely awakened the dormant virus). Get both, as 1911 said, it is pretty much a given that you'll be wanting the other soon enough. Prices seem to be on the uptick and who knows how much longer these fine rifles will have wide availability.

In my experience, the Yugo 24/47 is more likely to be a shooter.  The Yugos I have seen all had good bores, the few VZ-24s I have seen had pitted bores.  My VZ-24 had a very pitted bore, but still shot well.  Both of my 24-47's have very good bores, one has a new barrel.

For a shooter, go with the 24-47.
To build into a sporter, go with the vz-24.
For collecting, get both, thats why they call it collecting.
