Remington R3 Recoil Pads?
« on: January 28, 2009, 04:59:35 PM »
Are these pads sold by Jerry's Sports Center and other wholesalers pre fitted? Will they readily exchange with pads on my 1187 synthetic stock and my BDL 7mm mag. rifle and other Remington stocks from the past?

The Remington R3s should fit your synthetic stock with no issues.  If your BDL stock came with an R3 originally, it should fit that, too.  If the BDL came with a buttplate or regular rubber pad...the R3 probably will not fit.  Buttplates and rubber pads are ground to fit the stocks.  Since R3 pads don't grind worth a crap, Remington makes the stocks fit the pads.  If you really want an "R3" pad...Limbsavers makes a grind-to-fit pad out of the same material.  I tried one on my stock and didn't think it looked very good.  The recoil absorption was great...it was just ugly as homemade soap.  So, I went with a Pachmayr Decelerator and am very happy with it.  Anyway, good luck.  Let us know if you have more questions.
