Info needed on Yeager muzzleloader
« on: February 10, 2009, 01:58:21 AM »
I am planning to look at an older Yeager muzzleloader (percussion) in .44 cal.  The seller tells me it has been fired only a few times, and he has used it as a wall hanger.  He said the condition is near perfect, nice wood, and looks good on the wall.  Says it should shoot fine. He advertised it as a "Yeager Kentucky Rifle". Says it was made in the late 1950's. It is 53" long. He  is asking $250.

I plan to use it primarily as a wall hanger, maybe pull it out a couple of times a  year with kids and grand-kids.

As I am relatively new to muzzleloaders. and never heard of a Yeager, I am asking for any information that might help.  I really appreciate any responses.  Thanks.

The term Yeager refers to a gun of german heritage and like the "hawken" can be ascribed to any short barrelled german rifle with the sliding wood patch box. I'd suggest you do a search of yeager rifles as new info regarding their lineage has been brought forward. If you are happy with the rifle and it's looks then by all means buy it.
