A-Bolt / X-Bolt

I called a couple gun shops today and one said that Browning was going to discontinue the A-Bolt and bring on the new X-Bolt.  The dealer at the other gun shop  said that he heard something to that effect too. Enlighten me, what have you heard or rather,what do you know for sure? Also,neither gun shop could find me an A- Bolt Micro Hunter in 7mm-08 anywhere. What gives?

They have stop making most of the A bolts. If you can find a new one and you want it, you better get it. The X bolt is the new gun. They have started shipping a few of them. The direct dealers will get them first.

A Buddy was at the Dealer show in Edmonton,Alberta last week and Browning has only dropped a couple cal. in the A-Bolt.and added the X-Bolt to the line-up.

There are fewer A-Bolts in the 2008 catalog.

Just like the Gold shotgun, the A-Bolt will be slowly phased out over time.  Our Browing rep said it might take 2-3 years for the A-Bolt to be totally gone.

You can't just drop an item when you have them in stock.  You keep advertising and selling the ones you have decent stock levels on.

I went to the NRA exibits show recently and looked at the new X-Bolt. The rep was showing me both it and the A-Bolt. I never asked but I was led to believe that the A-Bolt would be around for a while. I'm looking to get a new one and think I'll try the X-Bolt, its very similar but has the new trigger set up and you can open the bolt with the safety on. Otherwise they feel about the same.

Most notably is a completely new adjustable three-lever Feather Trigger™ system that offers the best feel on any Browning rifle ever.

A new bolt unlock button works with the top-tang safety to offer enhanced safety while unloading.

New styling features more compact dimensions for a smaller, quicker, sleeker look and feel, and also trims weight.

To ensure the stability of optics, scope bases are attached to the receiver using four screws per base.

Short 60° bolt lift is fast cycling and allows you to work the bolt quickly without the scope getting in the way. 

The X-Bolt is free-floated by bedding the front and rear of the action for stability and to help maintain barrel to stock spacing for consistent accuracy. A recessed muzzle crown helps protect the rifling from damage. 

An all new Inflex Technology recoil pad is standard on every X-Bolt rifle. 

An all new detachable rotary magazine is incorporated into the X-Bolt.

Here's the deal. I have talked with Browning and researched it pretty heavily because I am in the process of picking up two micros for my children. Yes they are phasing out the A-bolts. E.G., the micro Hunter is only available in 09 in lefty and in right hand only in .22 Hornet. All others are now X-bolts. I'm buying two for my kids. One is a right so I'll end up with a micro X-bolt. The left for my daughter will still be a micro A-bolt. It does get confusing. The dealers aren't real sure of what's going on either. The good news is that Browning's website has been updated. Go there to see what is offered for 09. There are still quite a few A-bolts sitting on shelves if you have to have one. IMO I like the X-bolt better because of the new bolt that can be opened on safe. Not much else was changed except cosmetics. God Bless!
