Plastic cased 38 Special

Found this the other day at local gunshop.Its a plastic cased 38 Special w/ USAC Headtstamp.It has an Aluminum head with plastic nylon body and copper plated lead bullet.

I've got a box of those somewhere.
If I remember correctly I bought them back in the 80's.
Plus I think they were touted as being reloadable.
Although I've never got around to reloading them.
Novel idea.
Maybe I'll get then out this weekend and try reloading them.

From the looks of the case and the way the bullet is I dont think you can use anyold bullet.The inside of the case has a ring that locks in the groove on the back of the bullet.

IF this is reloadable, then that should cut the cost down on cases.  I don't know why they don't make a thicker aluminum case that is reloadable out of aircraft aluminum.  It also would probably require a new type of bullet.  Maybe they should also offer more steel cases for cheap rounds for those who don't reload.

They are reloadable, but you had to buy their special bullets with the rings on the bases. They just snapped into the cases, which could be resized by boiling them in water. Here's the reloading tool.

Cool, but another idea that just didn't pan out like the Dardick Trounds.  I bet that the bullets were way too expensive to be practical.

Actually, they were in line with normal bullets. I reloaded and shot many boxes of this stuff back in the mid 80's, and it was pretty accurate.

I have around 500 of the bullets and at least 1000 cases.  All are new, with some shipping info.  The red tool pushed out and reseated a standard primer as well as pressing the bullet in till it clicked in place.  Cases would retain their shape and no sizing was required.  Instructions gave charge weights less than for metal cased, due to smaller case capacity.  bullets are soft lead, copper plated like Berry.

Been thinking of offering a bullet and case to collectors and then sell the final bunch with instructions and loading tool.  I am not a collector so I don't know going rates for this stuff, if there are any.  I do have one weird aqua colored tround, unprimed.

I saw some 223 rounds like that.  it was kind of neat in that the different bullet weights and designs had different color plastic.
