Henry .17 HMR

I bought a  Henry .22 and love it, now I am considering another fun caliber. I got to shoot a beautiful Sako .17 HMR on the weekend and loved the round, so when I thought about getting one I considered the Henry again..
Anyone own one, how does it shoot?

The reason for .17 HMR is for precise shooting at fairly long ranges (long for a rimfire).  To truly get the most from this round I think the gun you put it on needs a good scope.  While I do have a scope on my deer rifle (Marlin 30AW in 30-30) I do understand the folks that don't like scopes on lever guns.  It seems like a mis-use of a short, quick handling rifle. 

Why not a .22 Magnum?  I have a Winchester 9422M that is .22 Magnum and it is slick.  My personal opinion is that this is what I think of for a lever gun.  The HMR seems to me to be a bolt gun round.

That makes sense Keith. I tried a scope on my lever .22 and didn't like it one bit.

I looked at one of the Henry .17 HMR rifles, and it came without sights, with a scope base, and the stock had a raised comb for scope usage.  Kind of wish I'd of bought it, now, but it's gone.

I have had a henry golden boy in 17hmr for a few years now, and it is a beautiful gun.  Shoots right on, and a long ways out too.  Has the rear sight adjustable for elevation, and can hit a 2" rock at 100 yards every time, even with open sights.

I bought a .17 HMR Varmint Express when they first came out a few years ago.  Put a cheap 3x9x40 scope on it and quickly found out why this new caliber was so popular.  At 50 yards 1/2" is routine as are shots under an inch at 100 yards.  Can set up clay pigeons at 200 yards and shoot the pieces until too small to see.  All this from a bench and little to no wind.

Have shot several woodchuck and various small game with it and highly recommend this and all Henry products.

I ordered the varmit express when they first started talking about coming out with it (took almost 4 months to get it) absolutly worth the wait. I have had a trigger job done on mine 2.65lbs no creap and very little over travel. Scoped with a banner 4-12AO on a calm day it will put 5 inside of .37" @ 100 yrds. Have shot a few p dogs all the way out to 300 yrds, the only problem is the 17 don't spread em like a 45gr hp out of my 22-250.
