(1): there's a war going on and 45 acp is a military caliber. (2): Panic buying in the face of a possible obamination - newer, stiffer regs regarding guns and ammo. (3) The ammo manufacturers, like gas suppliers, are quite keen on supply and demand - if they keep the supply low the demand climbs as does the price. The alst time I purchased a case of 7.62x39mm ammo I paid only $150, I think. Now you cannot purchase 250 rounds for that and it is rediculous.
I find it interesting that when the price of gas went up, people complained but when the price of ammo goes up nobody says anything. What, bullets aren't important?
