How good does PF9 shoot? Very!
« on: May 11, 2009, 12:27:35 PM »
Ok, here it is on paper.  Everyone has been asking about how well the PF9 will shoot.  And we've had lot's of answers like, 'pretty good' or 'not bad', hardly a definative answer.  So I stuck my neck out today and sat up a target at 25 yds and had at it.  I was not at my best today and had some get away from me.  I think another 2 or 3 hundred rounds and I will have the trigger down where I can do much better.  I found the gun shot the best when I just pulled it through instead of slowly and trying to judge the break.  So here it is, the good, the bad, and the ugly.  I really believe this gun will put them all into the black when I get a better feel of the trigger and I have a good 'eye' day.  I have a stigmatism and I see double sets of sights on some days (like today).  I'm going to keep trying and see how much better I can do.  You can just see a called flyer at the left edge of the paper; entirely my fault, not the guns.  44 Man

That's some nice shooting 44 Man.   Small CC pistols with long trigger pulls aren't the easiest things to shoot good groups like that with.  Some folks looking at that picture may not realize just how small that group is because they don't know that the gun in the picture is not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes.

I opted for a P-11 with a hard chromed slide myself.  I felt having a few extra rounds at the ready and the double strike capability was worth the slight increase in size and weight over the PF9.  But that's just my personal preference.

IMO you couldn't find a better 9mm pistols for the money than these Kel-Tecs.  :)

44Man,
Now you've done it!! You've made the rest of us feel inadequate because we won't be able to match that group with a PF9!! At least that's the case with me. I have owned a PF9 for a few years, and have never shot it for groups. Doubt that I'd post a target picture if I did after seeing yours-------------- :) You're not considering an optical sight are you?------- ;D

Savage, I'm sure you would do just fine.  All you need to do is concentrate on the front sight until it breaks.  It's amazing how difficult that can be sometimes!  I myself have trouble giving it full concentration for a couple of seconds to break a well aimed shot.  I also find the white dots very distracting for this kind of work.  I have a pair of glasses that focus at 24" on the front sight, but then I see three target bullseyes!  You just can't win.  Anyway thanks for the compliments, but what I wanted to see is IF I wanted to pot a bunny, (or if I needed take a head shot at 25 to 40 yards), is the gun's accuracy enough.  Well, it is.  The rest is up to us.  44 Man

44 Man,
I'm primarily an action pistol shooter. About the only time I shoot groups is to verify the sights. After that, unless something happens to the gun or sights that sends me back to the bench, all my shooting is done off hand. I'm not one that enjoys shooting little bitty groups with a working pistol. I shot my P3ATs and PF9 well enough to qualify for backup carry. Now that I'm retired, I might shoot a magazine a month thru these little pistols. I have shot mine enough to know that these little Kel Tecs are capable of good accuracy. Your groups bear that out. Good Shooting!!

Nice shooting 44man. I have put alot of rounds thru my PF9 now. The more you shoot the better you get a feel for the trigger. I have gotten it down to where I know where the trigger breaks and I can pull up all of the slack in the trigger and just squeeze the last little bit untill it fires. These really are very accurate guns.

I bought one yesterday and shot 100 rounds through it. I am very impressed with the groups I got with it yesterday. 90% of my shooing was at 10 yards. I am use to the trigger seeing how I have a P3AT 380. Glad I bought the PF9.

I bought a CZ 84.  It has lots of scraped paint and holster wear, paid $159.  I read it will shoot, boy howdy.
I was and am amazed.  the reason I mention it is that for a small hideout it is my recomendation.  It has a polygon barrel so I guess it will not wear out, and cycles great.
I figure that Czeck policeman probably put a couple of hundred rounds through it, doing me a favor, now it is nicely broke in.
