Lightfield vs. Hastings laser slugs
« on: November 09, 2008, 09:11:38 AM »
My son and I took his new compact 20 gauge USH to the range after church this afternoon.   We took some 2 3/4 Lightfields and some Hastings slugs.   My son and I were able to touch each others bullets at 50 yards with the Lightfields.  Recoil with the Lightfields was nearly non-existent.   The hastings slugs were close in accuracy, but the recoil was more noticieable.   Thanks for all the advice on this forum!

The recoil between the two slugs should be nearly identical.  I don't understand the discrepancy.

I had the opposite outcome.  The hastings were touching if not overlapping and the lightfields were about 2 inches apart.  I was using an 870 with a hastings barrel.  Just goes to show that ammo works differently in every gun.

Lightfields have shown me that they are very good slugs. I have shot them in numerous slug guns with all very good accuracy.

Lightfields shoot great out of my 20 gauge USH.

Lightfield are great slugs, I use them in my 1100. But I am surprised you didn't notice the recoil. The 3 inch out of my 1187 put me in the doctors office. Blew my neck out. Put them on a recoil calculator and it's around 60 lbs. My 7mm is around 23 lbs. But 2 3/4 or 3 inch shoot great, watch the wind drift. The BC is terrible.

I think he was talking about the lightfield hybrids.  They are about the same as the hastings.  The 3 inch commander ID's will dislocate your shoulder if your not ready for it.

I was using the hybrids, the 3 inch kicked the crud out of me, and the muzzle rise was ridicules. Not a fan. They shot good, but wasn't worth it to me.

Have you tried the lightfield lights?  At reasonable slug ranges I don't think the deer will notice, but you will.  They are the same slug at about 1300 fps I believe.  Even better in my gun are the hastings low recoil, but not much energy out past 80 yards or so.  They are subsonic too, so the wind drift is less.

I love the Lightfield Hybred 2 3/4" sabots out of my H&R USH in 12GA...Never tried the Hastings...If it ain't broke, I am not going to fix it...I don't think that I could improve on my groups.  Maybe when I run out of the Lightfields I will give the Hastings a go...The prices were actually comparable at my local Gander Mtn.
