West coast cannon shoots
« on: October 11, 2008, 05:23:01 PM »
Hi, just wondering if there are any cannon/mortar shoots here on the "best" coast..sometimes called west, or left coast! Used to be one out in the desert south and east of Bend, Or., but haven't heard lately about any....got any info, or links? Thanks, Jim

Discussion post mved from Cannon Shoot Announcemnt topic.

I beleive the Guys down in Arcata, CA are have a regular shoot.  There also use to be cannon shoots at Douglas Ridge and Josephine County Sportsmen Club.  I have been told that the shoots at Josephine county were discontinued years ago, but it was years ago when I shot there.

Hi Jim. Here in Humboldt County CA  there are 2 cannon shoots every year. One in February and one in June. The last shoot in June there were 30+ guns on the firing line. After the first of the year, I'll post info in the 'cannon shoot announcement' topic. I think the people that owned the property east of Bend, Ore. sold it and the shoots stopped. Come on down if you can. All are welcome at our shoots.

A friend of mine called Mr. Titus and talked to him this morning. He used to shoot at Simpson many years ago (1980s). He is now 83 years of age and has long ago sold off his cannon. He is trying to sell his machine tools at presant and does little shooting other than target and sport. Hope this is helpful.

I last talked with him in 1988.  He showed me some very interesting things about Millwrighting.  He showed me how easy it is to knock trunnions off if they aren't properly attached. Thats why you now see weld marks on my trunnions.

Who got his Whitworth?

The annual "Misery Cannon Shoot" will be held on February 21 2009 at the Simpson Range at 11 a.m.
The way the weather has been acting up around here; it will probably be a miseryable shoot. If it rains
there is a cannonshed on the end of the rangehouse and the cannons can be shot from there.

Got your PM, and answered it, Thanks! Any chance this Feb. Shoot would be called on account of "Misery Weather Forecasts"? Even in the rain, might be that "A Good Time Was Had By One & All"! Thanks again, BoomLover Jim

Don't pack your bags for the Misery Cannon Shoot just yet!  The gunclub that holds the shoot has not yet signed a lease for the coming year, yet.
The property is owned by a timber company and they have some concerns that need to be addressed. The range has been closed since New Years day.
I'll keep you posted.

The range lease has been signed and the Misery shoot will be held on February 21.
There is limited camping space. First come, first served. Hope to see you there. Gas is now $2.39.
