Hunting in Pennsylvania
« on: March 29, 2009, 02:44:44 PM »
There should be a forum about hunting in pennsylvania's hardwoods! its arguably the trickiest region to hunt especially the western side including suburban counties like allegheny or the remote counties like forest. it has so much to offer and the hertiage with our countries fore fathers lays here lets make a pennsylvania hunting forum!

There is. Apparently you've not taken the time to look over the list of what is available here.

I look forward to seeing your posts here in the PA forum.  Just pleae keep it clean and let me know if you have any problems.

Almost forgot.  None of that teen typing either.  Some of us with more wear and tear on our bodies and minds have enough trouble on the computer as it is. LOL(took me two weeks to figure that one out)

Knowing the abbreviations can also mean said person has been online for a while(I got online when pahardwoods was just 3 years of age). Back on topic...

pahardwoods...welcome to GB. I live in Ohio but for hunting it just keeps going downhill and do 95% of my hunting in beautiful PA. Eagerly awaiting the '09 Bear season dates(I think it gets announced April 20th). Turkey starts in 23 days!! Can't wait!!

We did'nt have a tv in the house till I was like 12 and even then it was unplugged except for certain shows and rainy days, but even then it took 3 hours of reading before it was brought out of the closet.  No computers or video games.  No allowance, but I did have an account at the local bait shop for any hooks, sinkers, floats and bait that I wanted.  Dad would shake his head every friday, but never once said a bad word about it or cut me off.

Bought my first computer at 18.  I can get on here and ebay and every now and then get a email to someone.

I think that is why I love to see young guys hot under the collar for hunting.

No, but I'd like to do so. I primarily hit the state game lands and they have turkey, deer, bear and coyote. The family I knew in PA that allowed me to hunt their farm land for varmints moved so that opportunity is now gone.

The chuck hunting I take part in is done here in Ohio. Coyote in PA is by far my favorite, mostly because its all year round and unlike the others they actually show themselves(thanks to electronics calls) so it makes for a successful weekend  :)

I will say this, the most memorable time of my life was this past November on the 3rd day of Bear in your state. My cousin and I split up and were apart for a good half hour when I thought I heard were some cubs right over a hill. As I was backing down the hill slowly(didn't want a confrontation with momma) the sounds stopped. I said some expletives, the safety came off and my Remmy 700 .308 bolt action all of a sudden felt like a red rider bb gun! My position on the hill was terrible. If a pissed off mom presented itself, it would have been at a distance of maybe 10-12ft and no further, coming from infront of me or to the sides and to make it worse I was in the middle of thorn brush and maneuvering in and out of it wasn't fun. I was near the top of the hill but not high enough to see over, it honestly scared me and was the best rush of emotions I ever experienced.

I started walking backwards very quickly and after a few more seconds of that I engaged the safety and ran towards where my cousin and I split up. Something like that could never happen in this boring state of mine so I'm grateful for the hunting PA offers me  ;) Oh, we never headed back to that area. It was getting late and had a decent hike ahead of us just to get to the truck. I'll hit that same spot next year though.

I'm also taking the 7600 pump. I honestly felt like a peace of meat, its a tad different from hunting deer and gobblers that's for sure and that's why I like it!
