1911 Adjustable Sights
« on: January 26, 2009, 05:21:56 PM »
I want to swap out the fixed sights on my Kimber that I used as a project gun for my 460 Rowland conversion.  I checked Midway and Brownells.  Unfortunately they didn't have much to choose from and the ones that seemed like they would work; were of course out of stock.

You guys and gals have any suggestions on where else to look?

Thanks for your help.

Kimber sights seem to use proprietary dovetail cuts.   I recently built a compact 45 and used Kimber's Meprolite tritium sights.  I called Kimber and they were very helpful.  They told me the correct dovetail cutters to use, and the depth of cut.   I'm sure they could give you similar information about the sights on your project gun so you would be able to figure out what will work.   However, don't be too surprised if nothing fits.   Like I said, Kimber uses their own proprietary dovetail cuts for their sights.

Here's one that's micro adjustable for elevation, and drift adjustable for windage. It fits your sight cut. There are more out there, you just have to search them out.

Thanks guys.  I appreciate the help and the links.  Another buddy of mine also recommended MMC.  That seems to be the best of both worlds: adjustable and low profile.

Does Kimber offer an adjustable sight that will fit the fixed sight dovetail?  If not, send 'em the slide, and I am sure they can modify the current dovetail, and fit new adjustable sights for not much more than the price of the sights themselves.

They do, but their model is also out of stock.

I decided to go with the PTNite Sight/MMC model that is made to fit the Kimber dovetail cuts.  Plus you have your choice on what color dots/bars/outlines you want on the site.  They were very helpful on the phone; just had to wait a while on hold.
