If we only had Grant today.
« on: February 02, 2009, 06:04:47 AM »
GA Windbreak  ,you have got to read this book.
Some of Grants writings were just released and updated here.
This is the most damaging portrayal of Lincoln i have ever read , and you were right ,we never hear about grant because he was a Good President.
I never knew him and LEE had stayed in touch with each other as long as they had.

If it were not for this man ,we would have had this Happen in 1865.

This is a great book guys.
Grant came to office horrified at what he found Lincoln had planed for the Re-construction of the Country.
You People in the South ,although you hate him ,you were to be organized into a labor force to reconstruct the damage Lincoln felt you had caused.

Grant wrote about this ,but he never posted ,or talked about all the things he had found going on in Washington during the war.
He couldn't ,Lincoln was a Saint in the minds of The North ,He did however tell his Friend LEE.
Hopeing that LEEs influence could stem the Hate that Southerners felt for Grant also.

In this Book LEE writes about ( Who is this Marx Person ,and why was he so idolized by Lincoln ).
What is shocking is the Chapters where Grant actually Hid things from Lincoln ,or acted like due to the War, he had never received the Correspondence or letters Lincoln had wrote to him.

Lincoln wanted to place all the high ranking Officers of the Confederacy in Camps pending charges of treason.
A personal ,separate Army was to do this called the Organizers.
Grants ,#1 General Sherman, who he saved from an Insane Asylum in Ohio at the start of the war knew about Grant hiding things ,and was to report it all to Lincoln.
Sherman was placed back under Doctors care for the fits of Rambling he would slip into.

In the end of this Book LEE said of Grant.
( I surly do wish the time for this Man ,to enter the world of Washington Corruption would have preceded Lincoln. His Love for America would have saved this Nation from the Horror we all had to endure ).

We sure need a Grant today , he was a simple man who never really liked the Washington Elite status.
And instead of tearing apart the Constitution ,he Enforced it, and did the best he could with what he had.
Surrounded by the Lincoln supporters who now were afraid to say anything they knew.

I learned that they were attempting to push General Custer into a position to replace Grant, who they intended to impeach for what they were going to release to the public about what he had done to hamper Lincoln.

No wonder we never hear much about Grant ,he was an American.

quite the contrary, phalanx.

Southerners do not hate Grant. In fact, I posted in another thread comments to that effect. I explained it here in detail. Take a look at it, it's Reply # 69. You might be surprised at what we actually think of Grant. It certainly is not Hate.

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,88604.60.html

It is simply another Yankee myth that Southerners hate(d) Grant. Although he was indeed considered an enemy during the war, the deaths under his command were attributed to just that; war, and not murder. For this reason, Southerners actually respect Grant, and in fact, helped elect him President.
Unlike the death and destruction caused at the hand of Sherman, who was, in fact, guilty of war crimes beyond measure, murder being just one of those war crimes. Now there's a man Southerners HATE! And always will.

Keep reading the posts referenced above, and you'll find the evidence I posted partially showing where my great grandmother experienced the wrath of Sherman first-hand.

I'll try to find the book you recommended. It sounds very interesting.

Southerners here all say they hate Grant ,but they live in NM ,so i don't guess they are any true barometer on that.
Now Sherman went around Grants orders in the South ,and the siege of Atlanta.
In this Book you see that a lot of what Grant was blamed for ,was done by someone else.
I didn't know that Carl Marx lived that long ago ,but Lincoln was very interested in Marx.
I never could get over that if Grant was so bad ,why was LEE so found of him as an Honorable man ?

Lincoln was Furious when Grant allowed the Army of Northern Virgina leave Appomattox with their Small Arms.
Grant said it was still a violent countryside ,and he wouldn't be able to sleep knowing such Heroic men were turned loose into it unarmed.
But you get the feeling it also was to ensure that if Lincoln attempted to Arrest ,or Harm them, they would have a chance to defend themselves.

The real Nut case was Custer , He was constantly the one the Politicians who hated Grant, wanted in that office as a puppet to them.
Now that guy got what he had coming , to bad he took his Men with him.
No other President ever took that office with such a  mess as this Nation was in then.

And i wonder how Many Americans know that he often confided in LEE ,about matters involving the South and its reconstruction.

http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,88604.60.html

Wow its like you have read the Book , Grant had drawn up papers to have Sherman removed of his Command.
He said he was afraid the South may at any minute turn into a vengeful Mob killing everything in their path.
And that some of the things Sherman is having his Men do ,is drawing a great deal of criticism from the Officers under him.
Disable the Rail Road didn't mean destroy it , and his siege of Atlanta seemed to excite him in a strange way other than that befitting an Officer.
Lincoln said he would look into it , i guess we all know how far that went.

You see, phalanx, we Southerners seek the Truth in all aspects of the war. Even when it comes to the Union side. There is only one truth. You can rip it out, stomp it into the ground, and tear it up, but when it's all over with, it's STILL the TRUTH. And if you change ANY part of it for ANY reason, it ceases to be the truth anymore.
We back up our findings with evidence. The evidence shows Grant to be a soldier. He did his job and people died, honorably, and on a field of battle. Sherman committed murder, against civilians, and against the very people he was supposed to be "helping," the slaves, plain and simple. And although Grant was somewhat aware of the events in Georgia and South Carolina, he was too far removed from the deep South to bring about any effective change in it. We understand that. So did our ancestors.

phalanx, I would like to suggest 3 books for you to read, and you'll get a pretty good picture of what Southerners think about the whole business.

1. The South Was Right - written by Ronald & Donald Kennedy
This book is so researched it has almost 40 pages of reference to prove what they are saying.

2. Reading The Man : a Portrait of Robert E. Lee through His Private Letters - written by Elizabeth Brown Pryor
She uses the man's own writings to demonstrate his character, beliefs, and the legend that is General Lee.

3. The Real Lincoln - written by Thomas J. DiLorenzo
This book discounts Everything we have been taught about this man, proving he was NOT a humanitarian, but an admitted racist who despised blacks. It demonstrates how Lincoln has broken the Constitution more than any other person in history.

If you have not read any of these, I strongly recommend them. I will even loan them to you, if you'd like.

I would also like to invite you to read the Yankee Myths series I have posted here in this forum on GBO. There are 5 in the series and they are numbered in the titles.

Question: How many slaves did Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation set free? To find the answer, all you have to do is read the proclamation, which very few people have ever done, including school teachers who teach the thing!

The South was right guys ,and it is a lucky place to have Men like you who hold on to her traditions.
And you will always be the South , and all people all over the world will now wish they were one of you.
Your right ,the Flag i found on that other forum, and what we see waving around here ,is nothing about you guys.
Its about something that will soon retire it as the agreements therein ,it never was to be about you ,it was born to be removed.
Confederacy ,in the end you actually won , you will remain the states you once were and still are.

Meaning you are the oldest surviveing Country in tact in the World.
We write and post how ridiculous Obamas plans are ,How can this all work for 50 States.
Have we ever thought he doesn't want the rest of us ? the laws he is writing are not to include us ?
Is it possible we have been divided up just like the USSR was ?
The World cant afford a US in another civil war ,nor could it afford that with the USSR.
Obama has ignored the ice storms in the middle of this Country , and he ignores the volcano in Alaska.

I woke up today to find out it isnt a matter of can we have this or that under the Constitution.
Its a matter of who gets what and where,  Its why Bush just walked away , Its something that happened here last week end the media is still deciding if its worth reporting.

Confederacy ,you will will get your flag ,and you may not even have to fight for it.
Obama has been asked to restore the original documents of our for fathers to you.
He said he will think about it.
He was told to not hold them hostage,

phalanx, did you know that the Confederate States of America was never dissolved? Her Constitution was never overturned. Not one Confederate State ever left her, not one. She is just without an active government. But she still exists to this day.
Lee's surrender at Appomattox did not end the CSA. There was never a cease fire or peace treaty signed by either side, only a cessation of hostilities was informally recognized. If you can call "reconstruction" a cessation of hostilities.
Don't you think all Southerners know that all we have to do is to repeat what our ancestors did, and go through the legal process (State Legislatures) and peacefully withdraw. Strictly by the Constitution, as in 1861. Our government is just sitting there waiting to be reactivated, which only takes one State to accomplish.

You should look up the 2000 Confederate Constitution. Yes, you read right, the 2000 Confederate Constitution. It was last updated as late as 2005, and, in the absence of an active government, brings the 1861 version up to date with all that has happened in the world since then. Just search for "2000 Confederate Constitution" and you should have no problem finding it. Pay especially close attention to how states can join (3 classifications). Read this and let me know your thoughts on it.

Southern by grace ,the entire world knows the South is a Country of itself.
When you toss dollars around like we are ,it may mean the Country they represent no longer exist.
Get Ready South land ,you may be representing us all before to long.
Ive looked for months for why this has happened and our own Government was going along with it.
And why Bush just walked away.
Now we hear so much about Lincoln and Grant  ,and we trust in the Faith and the perseverance of the South.
You survived us , you survived and you don't even know it yet.
Look to Texas ,she has you all in mind, and has covered your bases long before Obama.
The words that were used were the give away.
Confederacy is usually used as a combination of states forming a Country.
Coalition is a group of Countrys ,working together.
It seems we are to soon know what it all means ,and  you guys get ready to be the one who won in the end.
NM got the news today , and so did ,Az. Colo. Nev. , and there was a good reason Bush never closed the Borders.
The Confederacy lives , in fact it is now the ones who will hold the Constitution and the bill of rights.
Our Troops will be coming home sooner than we all thought.
And New England and the North will be lucky if they can hold together ,but they are all broke.
The Confederacy today was called by name ,and you are right ,you were never disbanded ,and you didnt have to Leave anything.
It left you.

phalanx,
I'm confused about the book you speak of; is it "The man we never knew" or the book you have a picture of "Grant Memoirs and Letters"?
I should tell you I've hunted high and low for the first one and it must be a very old and out of date Book. It's not listed anywhere in the Library of Congress, that I could find. Not saying its not there but I sure can't find it listed either by Book name or Author name. Now as for the second one I've seen it at Amazon for sell and if its the one I sure will see to it that I read it soon.
As to the School taught history of this conflict there is little, if any, truth in it. Even the players involved don't always help because they have their own ax to grind. Most of the Southern Generals have little good to say about Jeff Davis save those who knew him well and truly understood the hell he was going thru trying to save the Confederacy and the Constitution he loved so much. I place Davis and Lee as the two most revered figures of that time.
One thing I've come to believe is that if Davis had run for the Presidency (U.S.) he would have beaten Lincoln and also united the Dem. party of that time. We well might have avoided the horrendous blood shed that we had. The only reason Lincoln won was because of the split in the Dem. party and I truly feel that Davis was such a statesman that if he had so desired he would have pulled it off. Having now read the Book on Davis I know he NEVER desired to be President of the US or the CSA. He only wanted to be in the field, with his men, doing what he knew best. If there is one person that we, as Americans should know better, its Jefferson Davis. The man stayed true to his heart no matter the cost all his life and, to me, that is a most remarkable trait, so very rare in us. The quote below says it best about one of the two men I most admire. And the most telling thing about them both is that many hate what they stand for even today.

Quote
"The truth is this: if only one man among all of the rest will not break ...then all
of them, all those who so despise men that they believe all men can be broken and all
men can be bought, all of them have failed and all of them are defeated, because one
alone destroys them and one alone can give heart to all other men." - Robert Crichton

Ga ,i loaned our copy to a Neighbor ,he said it had been renamed, this is what the book store told him because a lot was added to it.
He is getting me the new name and i will send it pronto or email you with it.
They said they have had a surge of orders for it  lately , sense Obama was acting like Lincoln and several books have come out about the real Lincoln.
I didnt hear it but in one of Hannitys shows he said if you want to see a real president ,go read about Grant.

Thanks, as I sure would like to read it. ;)

As a side note Lincoln only carried a 37% vote of the population and he got not one southern vote. Funny, that NEVER comes up when talking to Lincoln lovers. Hmmm! ::)

Sherman was both the most original genius of the Civil War, and "the typical American". His career provides lessons to the modern world and to modern warfare. It was his conscious exploitation of the economic and psychological factors of war in his "March through Georgia" which helped to end the Civil War.
