Sako action custom rifle
« on: November 11, 2008, 07:54:38 PM »
Guys, lend me a little help please.  I have come across a never fired Magnum Research Mnt. Eagle in 300 Win.  This does not have the carbon fiber barrel that Magnum Research shows on their website. I am told that the gun is built on a Sako L681 action with a 24” Kreiger barrel and an HS Precision composite stock.  What is a rifle like this worth? Any oppinions on Kreiger barrels? Any comments on the Sako L681 action?  Again, any info would be appreciated.  Travis

Trav:  if you are looking at an 'out of the box' custom rifle that uses Sako actions and Kreiger barrels you are probably looking at a rifle valued somewhere in the  $1,000- $1,500, at least......and this could be a low estimate, easily.

Precision composite stocks might run a couple of hundred $ but it is the action and barrel combination that is most costly.  The SAKO actions are incredibly smooth and strong; Kreiger barrels are a known quality custom barrel.  The 300 Win Mag is a great caliber.  This is a win-win-keeper-keeper in my book.

None the less, try and get a coule of opinions on its value and decide from there.  Mikey.

The action alone would go over $ 400. The barrel over $ 300 and the stock over $ 250. Then you add in the smith work, trueing action, fitting barrel and bedding in the action to the stock. Like Mikey said, $ 1000 would be a steal and $ 1500 would be a real good buy, if you were looking for something like that. If it has sight on it add them on too.

That version of a mountain eagle sold for less then 1K new a few years back.  I kept seeing the same 2 at gunshows over a 2-3 year span with no takers. It is a nice rifle and you would not be able to duplicate it for 1k or even 2 k nowadays especially if you had to buy a Sako rifle as a donor.
