WHAT I AM CONSIDERING
« on: January 29, 2009, 01:53:26 AM »
Now, none of this will I do myownself.
I don't really know if this is reasonable.
What I have been thinking of doing is using a Government frame and a commander slide with a .38 super barrel.
I want HONEST feed back--watch the refused words :-*.
I want a 1911 on the order of my Sig 239 but in a .38 super caliber in other words a 1911 commander .38 super with full grip size and capacity.
What about parts. I have  frame I am willing too sacrifice too this project.
Blessings

The frame of a commander and government models frames are identical save the length of the dust cover? Easily, you can come up with a commander in .38 Super. And, commander slide will work with a government frame.

Just seen a super nice Colt in .38 Super go at a gun show recently.  I don't know what it sold for, but it was marked $700.  According to the deaaler the gun had belonged to a Mexican drug dealer, it had some engraving, sterling silver grips and seemed to be in excellent shape with the exception of some wear on the blueing at the high points.  The gun had been converted to .38 since the frame was clearly marked "U.S. Property" and most likely started life as a .45.

I would call Wilson or someone who is know for their work and see if they will/can build one for you.  It won't be cheap but if you pickup enough of them beer cans on the South Texas highways you should be abel to convert them to cash to purchase one in short order...... ;D

Actually, I am considering contacting them. I think they will do that and if not I think Dawson can do a conversion. $$$$$'S
That said I may contact Vandenberg about his thoughts.
I like the way a .38 Super shoots and that brought about the Commander thinking.
We will see.

I found and purchased a NIB, Colt Commander XSE, in .38 Super.
Step 1: Shoot the snot out of it.
Step 2: If I find flaws--back too Colt, let them do what they will do free.
It probably will end up in Vandenbergs hands for a Koating, lowering and flaring and perhaps a supported bull barrel.
Any one got any personal prefrences or suggestions?
