Resizing Jacketed Bullets
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:33:07 PM »
I've always wanted a 350gr bullet for my 405 Winchester Target, tried the discontinued .411" X-Bullets which didn't shoot well due to actually measuring .410", read about others resizing jacketed bullets, so I ordered a Lee .410" push thru sizing die and some Speer 350gr .416" spitzers, Speer's  .416 Rem Mag data shows it good from 2325-2600+fps, the 28" barrel of the Target will push 300gr to 2500fps, hoping it will due 2300fps with the 350gr bullets. The first bullet I sized took a lot of effort and came out at .410" due to leaving visable jacket material in die, the die appears to be a bit rough. So I polished it with 1500 wet/dry wrapped around a bore mop chucked in the drill press for about a minute, then just the mop and Flitz. The next round sized easily and came out exactly at .411" due to the spring back mentioned in the article below which I was counting on!!!  ;D Lee makes the die in limited sizes but offers custom sizes, so anyone having trouble finding jacketed bullets that either aren't offered in a good variety of styles, or have a firearm with an offsize bore can make their own custom bullets.  ;)

Tim, did you use any type of lube on the bullet? I've resized a few slugs in the past, and Lee case sizing lube makes life a lot easier; rinses off with water.
