Hornet shells sticking in chamber
« on: February 02, 2009, 02:09:50 PM »
I just bought a sb2 handi in 22 hornet.  I bought a lee loader and before I even reloaded a shell I put a re-sized and trimmed case in the chamber and could not get it out.  I found the post in the faq's about ejector improvement.  Will that solve the problem with the bb in front of the spring or did I buy a neck sizing tool to look at.  It sticks about 85% of the time with the resized shells and I actually tricked it into sticking for a millisecond buy pushing the ejector with my finger.  I got a few to come out by tapping the side of the chamber with a plastic hammer, but the rest had to be rodded out.  Sometimes it will eject the shell once and then after reclosing it won't.  It has not had any problems with factory ammo.  I shot about 30 factory and not a one stuck and i opened and closed with one about 30 times and no problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I necksize my hornet brass with a Lee collet die, never had brass stick, I'd polish the chamber and do the ejector tune, everything is in the FAQs.  ;) Have you trimmed the brass? It may stick if it's too long too, doesn't take much.

I trimmed the brass with a Lee length guage cutter and lock stud.

Well I took the ejector out and polished the chamber.  I could'nt find Flitz or JB compound, but I used Brasso instead.  I wanted to use the shell method to polish the chamber and found it somewhat difficult to get one to chuck tight enough, or even strait by using a screw into the back of the flash hole.  So i found a hanger hook screw the right size.  It went in slightly crooked so I took a another and bent it into a circle and chucked that one into my drill and looped it over the hook end of the other.  It put the wobble into the connection rather than the shell or the drill. I posished just enough that the shells had little resistence coming out of the chamber.  I posished the ejector pin and put the bb in front of the spring and viola!  Now my only problem was finding the brass that flew across the room! it was more of a chamber isssue than the ejector it seemed.  Thanks!!!
