Midway blem bullets
« on: January 22, 2009, 03:40:02 AM »
Just got my Midway order of blem bullets and I'm almost sure the 140 gr .270 boat tails are Sierra.   It might be a good time to stock up.  They came in plastic boxes too, rather than plastic bags which won't stack.

I also recently purchased a bunch of the blems from Midway. If you are lucky enough to get them before they sell out, they are usually a pretty good deal.

60 grain .224 SP - $7.49/100
52 grain .224 HP - $9.79/100
155 grain .400 JHP - $14.39/100

If they are the same 140's I got, they are identical to the Hornady's I already had on hand. Either way for the price it really doesn't matter.

Now in the "good Ol'  days" it used to be a regular stop when I made it to Lewiston, Ideeeeeeeho, to stop at Lolo's just to check out their supply of "rejects/seconds/blems from the local SPEER factory.

They indeed were good Ol'days, as they would have boxes full of verious sizes, weights and styles of Speer production.

I still have a few hundred on hand, but the most popular have long since gone down the barrel.

My wife is still using Grand Slam "rejects" for her hunting needs - 270 - 150gr, and although she didn't tag out this year, my daughter took her first deer with the wife's rifle and one of those reject Grand Slams.

Over the years, have shot lots of 75gr. 243s and 50 - 55gr. 22s.

Not sure exactly why the supply dried up, but sure miss it!

But then, remembering back to those days, a friend and I went into Lolo's and bought 10lbs. of bulk Miltary 4831 for $ .50 a pound. That was when canister powder went for $3 - 5 per pound.

Didn't know just how good we had it back then!

Keep em coming!

I used to buy bulk Speer blems from Lolo as well!  Too bad their 'arrangement' with Speer is no longer in place.

I just received my order today :)

James,
were yours soft point boat tails?

The bullets I received look like the 140 gr Sierra Gameking, but they have a cannelure.
I haven't used many bullet types in 270, so I have nothing to compare to.

Yeah, the 140 gr. 270s were soft point.  There was a Sierra bullet chart in the shipping box and the bullets looked the same, which made me think they might be Sierra.

I was thinking the same thing.  Either way, they look like quality bullets.  I'm not sure how they are blemished, unless Midawy considers slight color change on the jacket here and there a blemish.
