Bad day with the round ball...

Thanks for all the thoughts.  All I can say is, last Saturday I went back to the tc factory rear sight.  It shot much better.  One group was really nice, and then I started fooling around with loads, but my question was answered; my experiment with the barrel mounted peep that far away from my eye didn't cut it.
However, i don't like the factory rear sight and the bead front.  Sighting by putting the little circle at the bottom of a round rear site seems imprecise, and I'd like to either have a post front site with a nice straight edged top lined up with a squared notch rear.  I've got a couple nice blade front sights, but might check out dixie or totw for an appropriate rear. 
Such are the joys of bp, huh...

  I agree with everyone that said the peep sight should be on the tang up close to the eye. You look through the peep and the eye centers automatically.
Then all you have to do is place the target on top of your front sight with a sliver of light between the target and the sight. The sliver of light is so you won't put the front sight up into the target too far.  I would like to mention one more thing.  When you seat that pure lead ball if you bang down on it you can distend the round shape of the ball and cause the accuracy to be ruined.
I made a ball seater out of a 3/8" brass pipe nipple. On the lathe I cut a curved surface that matched the spherical shape of the ball. Now when I push down on the ball the pipe nipple contacts the ball right out next to the patch and does not damage the shape of the round ball. Much better. I have just about the same setup you have in a Lyman Kit gun I built many years ago. It has set triggers and shoots fine.  I am 76 years old. I had cataracts in both eyes  until I had new lenses put in my eyes and now I can see like a kid.  The operation sounds unpleasant but it is not unpleasant at all. actually its a piece of cake.
They do one eye first and a month later the other one.

I have the T/C tang sight on my T/C hawken and my old 67 yr. eyes like it a whole lot.Also do check the wedge pin,they do loosen up.
