NEF Huntsman sights
« on: June 10, 2009, 05:26:50 PM »
I hunt with a Williams WGRS-NEF receiver sight. I use the very small aperture for sighting in and take the target disc out for a ghost ring effect while hunting. I would like to use a scope for the sighting in and then pull it for the hunt.[No scopes allowed in MN Muzzel-loader season]  I don't want to remove and replace one system for another, so I am trying to fabricate a peep-rail combining the WGRS with a scope rail. A peep with an attach point and the third NEF mount hole could secure the rear of the rail and the dove-tail slot for the rear open sight[removed for peep use] could anchor the forward rail support. Is anyone familiar with a type of rail that would possibly work for this project?  , Ken

These are not for a NEF, but at least one hole can be made to be in the right place. Would need to probably drill one hole through the ramp for the back hole. They have a Encore/Omega or the CVA Kodiak/Optima, take your pick. The radius of the barrels is also smaller than the NEF, a proper sized pipe/dowel with some sandpaper could change that.

I am going to build a peep-rail, similar to the EABCO product, for my Huntsman. The integral peep would be used for hunting [no scope in MN ML season] and the scope would be used to sight in and test loads. They would be both sighted in to the same spot. I will use a  Williams 82 rail and extend the  milled flat area to 1.5 ". This will take a flat bottomed WGRS with 1" hole spacing, and using 1/4 " longer mounting screws. The third NEF hole can use the standard length screw. The two mounting holes [13 /16" spacing] for the original rear sight can be used for a forward rail support if a shim is used to make up the receiver /barrel height differential. I will cut the Williams 82 to fabricate this rail segment after deciding which scope I'll be using so that I can get the best support with the least interference with scope turrets and bell housings.   Comments?  Ken

Make your own!! Get a B-Square weaver universal blank (if you can find one  :-\) which appears to have a ½" radius when I lay it on a barrel, and add a NECG weaver peep sight. You may be able to do it with an Ultra rail, but it's only 6" long. EGW might make you a longer rail too!! http://egw-guns.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=290

Thank you Quick ,I never saw either of those items in all the surfing I've been doing, so it comes as a pretty good surprise as to how much stuff is out there if you know where to look. The $120 total cost plus S&H will hold me back right now and I will pursue the modified Weaver 82 base plus a flat bottom WGRS peep for now. Thanks again,     Ken
