Hornady 223 Ammo
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:23:44 PM »
Picked up a couple boxes of the Hornady 55gr sp 50per Box ammo the other day . Got a chance to Shoot some of it Up Yesterday. Got to checking Brass and found it was all Winchester Brass. I found this Funny. Did Hornady stop making brass or can they just not keep up?
Doesn't Bother me I prefer Winchester brass to reload.

Me thinks you picked up reloads with Hornady bullets. Several reloading outfits use Hornady bullets in their ammo. Hornady would NOT use Winchester brass in factory ammo.

Yeah you got reloads.  I bought some w/ Hornady V-Max when I bought my R-15 because I wasn't set up for loading 223 yet.  And they were Lake City brass under V-Max bullets.

Can't help with the Winchester brass question but another source for the ammo would be Graf's...

I talked to Hornady today about an issue I had with one of their products.  After they resolved My Issue with No problem.
I asked about the ammo and the 223 Winchester Brass. The gentleman Told me that yes in deed they were using Winchester brass and they had bought over 4 Million Pieces. The reason was,  with all of their Police and government contracts they could not keep up with production. He also said they are adding on to the production Lines.  He went on to tell me that they tried  to work a deal with Remington also. But Remington was having trouble Keeping up as well.
I found this all to be Interesting, How Big companies Are working Together To keep production going.
Now if we could just get the rest of the World to do this!
