 does anyone have experience with Hodgdon's HP-38 powder, its looks like its double base powder.
i picked it up for reloading light loads for my wife's 38 special.

Never used HP38 but have used the Winchester 231 which is the exact same powder with a different brand label on the bottle.   This  powder and Alliant's Unique are probably the most versatile pistol propellants I have ever used, but the HP38/231 is by far my favorite.  I have used it in 38Spec with 158 grain LSWC cast bullets loaded to about 775 ft/sec that was about as accurate as anything fired in a handgun.   Try it you'll like it!

I have used it for loading 148 grain "quiet" loads for my .357 Handi. Works great.

Yeah i looked at Unique too, but i like Hodgdon powders. good to hear the HP38 is good powder.
im working on getting m wife to target shoot with me. i got her a 38 revolver and want to make up some light loads so she can get used to firing a gun and the recoil wont turn her off
ducker, that sounds just like the load im working up for my wife. so i guess im on the right track.

I lucked into an 8# box of HP-38 for $50 at a gun show last year. It was really popular until the new generation of cleaner powders came along. It is still as good as it ever was. I am using it in .38 Special, 9mm , 40 S&W, and 45 acp.

Thanks Glenn , had to bring up another powder that I didn't have till this morning , picked up a pound at the gun show just to try out , for the same reason you did , sissy loads for Mama , these will be from her 2 1/2" S&W mod 36 so they should work well .

well Stimpy, i try to keep you on your toes  ;D ..
 so far, this is good powder. its easy to meter out and work with. it does let out a small puff of smoke when fired, but its not to dirty, does leave the empty brass black and sooty inside though.
  for my wifes, .38 spl, 3.5 grains works good, accure and very little bang or muzzle jump and no flash..
she likes it now she's taking about wanting a better trigger in  her gun,  ;D  ::)
