stuck case

I had my first stuck case today, on a 6mm X 284.  Was sizing down the 284 brass.  Am thinking of trying one of the stuck case remover kits.  Most likely the Hornady one, unless you guys have a better solution.  The dies are C-H dies.

  Not familiar with Hornadys  kit. But doubt its much diff from RCBS #2 stuck case remover.. You drill and tap the brass, insert screw and remove case as bolt threads into case.. easy as pie.. Now stick out your hand... WHACK... There is a perverbal ruler across the knuckles for not using proper lube!!!  ::) ;D  ;)

When I pull the rim off one of my cases while forming I just take the depriming pin out of the die and screw the die in from the bottom up and take a drill rod and put it in a case that is in the shell holder and push it up through.
If it's to tight then I drill and tap the case.
The reason for the case in the shell holder is while pushing the drill rod up through the stuck case mouth is to hold the drill rod straight.

Don't feel bad. I had my first stuck case last year, bought the case removal kit, then broke the tap on that, and had to send the die back to Hornady, which they fixed for no charge. Make sure you lube up that tap very well!

Some sizing dies like the RCBS you cant get the depriming stem out because the of expander ball.
Lyman dies you could.

 Just watch how DEEP you let the drill go. You can damage the decapping rod IF you hit it.

put the die in the freezer for 20 minutes. the brass shrinks faster than the die and you will be able to pull it right out with your hand.

i  have  always  just removed the de-capper  and punched  it out

a hammer  and a bolt wrapped in tape to protect the die

no  brainer.....but then  i never  knocked off  the base of  the case

every  thing else  seems like making it more complicated than  it  is
but then  i may be missing  something......correct me if i am

i did that with mine, just thought "how can i make these two separate" and realized that brass is thinner and weaker and so it should shrink faster, and i was right. don't tell my wife, she wouldn't believe it.  :)

i ran the brass into the die while loading up a lot of .243's trying to get finished up and got into a rhythm and as soon as i got resistance i knew what i had done.

bad words were said.

  That only works if you have dies that you can remove the de capper from the top. Most can't. Another reason for buying LEE.
