New to me T/C Flintlock(pics added)
« on: February 07, 2009, 10:05:12 AM »
I went in a pawn shop today on the way home from the gun show.  He had 2 T/C Hawkens one flintlock with a very newish looking 32" .50 T/C 1:66 roundball barrel that I managed to get for $150.00.  The stock was somewhat over sanded, and the spur cut off the triggerguard.

The other was a pretty clean .50 precussion for $95.00 that looked like someone had tried  to remove the breech plug with a pipe wrench.  I'm betting I could clean up the marks on the barrel with a file and reblue it.  I wish I knew why they were trying to remove the breechplug?????The stock would have looked good on the flintlock that I bought (will it fit?)

Yes, the stock should fit.

My TC Hawken 50 was turned into a switch barrel, switch lock for long range competition.   It has both 36 and 50 pecussion barrels and a 45 flint barrel, and both locks.   Changing back and forth is just a matter of changing barrels and locks in the same stock.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Ya, should fit if the barrel flats are the same size. they made 15/16 and 1" sizes.
I'll bet ya the nipple threads are buggerd or stripped in that perc barrel..you can get an aftermarket breech plug but it can be a dickens to turn the factory one loose without the proper tools. Too bad the previous owner didn't take advantage of the "lifetime" guarantee. Or if it was a "kit" gun it isn't coverd under warrenty. A kit guns barrel has a "k" prefix to the SN#. There is actually a K embossed in the stock of a kit in 2 places, one in the lock mortis and another on the bottom of the barrel channel near the tang.

The barrel didn't have the K marking.  I didn't pull the lock or barrel.  I thought it might have a stuck ball or puller but the ramrod bounced off the breechplug.

I went back and got the caplock today for $95.00.  It has one really awesome looking dark red walnut stock!  The barrel seems perfect except for the marks on the outside.  All the flintlock parts swapped right over.  The case finish on the spare percussion lock is the nicest I've ever seen.

Here's what I ended up with.  I'll have less than $150.00 in it, plus I ended up with a like new spare percussion lock and a nice extra rammer.

Did the percussion lock fit into the inletting for the flintlock? I have a flint and thought about converting to percussion, but I thought the locks were different shapes.

The flintlock fit the percussion stock fine, but the inletting is a little tight.

Swampman, you come up with some beautiful guns for little dinero.  Good on ya'.  The only traditional muzzies I see in pawn shops are so rusted and abused they would only make tomato stakes.
