Montanan gives birth to 13 little rascals
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:54:44 PM »
All in one afternoon . The proud father is doing well , Mr's Southpaw is relived the ordeal is over .
It kept 1Southpaw out of her hair for the afternoon .  Birthing were 3 singles , 3 Twins , and one set of quadtruplets . Add um up , yep the lucky number of 13 .
All have warped personalities , sort of a reflection of their father  ::)

Please welcome the latest editions to the Iron Gopher Gang family .......

Naming them is going to be a tough job , the Quads are already arguing as who is the most warped .
The singles feel like they were short changed having to go through life by them selves.
The 3 Sets of Twins are seing eye to eye so far .  ;)  :o  ::)  :'(
How am I ever going to be able to afford feed them all the lead they need to rotate through life  ???   ::)

Wow thats quite a population.  Blackie and Rusty may be a couple of their names.   Looks like a big happy family to me.  I'm sure they will enjoy going out shooting with you.

course along a 80 acre pasture . scoring system to be figgured out yet.  Set them up @ various firing points with so many seconds to see amnd shoot .  Also have a 6 pack down @ my back yard range . They have been well tested by many guests .

Those look real good, and what is the most caliber that you want to make them sing with?

The flippers

.22 rim fire for these is about max . The BAM ones (Body Armour Metal ) will stand .17HMR .
.223 will work as hole punches @ 50 yards  :o
Picture of BAM and One of the Clones . the BAM is on the left . Mild steel 1/4 " plate on the right .
3 shots to the head @ 55 yards with .17 HMR
The Belly shots were @ 55 yards with .223 with 62. gr soft nose and with FMJ 55 gr. The FMJ left the jacket in the hole on the right one . Hit the axis on the left one . Not good treatment  :'(

Because of the hitting power on the axis with .223 I am working with some T1 material in 3/8"
Two Gophers mounted on vertical axis that will rotate and re-register for next shot . Now is the time of year I do my R&D work . This Twin rotator project was started a couple years ago but never completed . Initial tests were looking promising . Still @ 100 yards the .223 FMJ made a bit of serious metal errosion . Spring work came and the project lost momentum . The Twin Rotators  look promising for the .223  . Need to try tempering .

I would like to get me some like those you got there.... .22 LR is all we use for the Richardson Ground Squirrels over here.  But when they head down their holes, and you aint got nothing to shoot, them steel flippers are nice.

Ernie,

We are supposed to be getting a set of rook and rabbit targets from a guy in Michigan for the Victorian Rifleman shoot.

What's the chances of borrowing those if the other guy is a no show?

Just need a road trip to Gt.Fsalls to find material . New is still pretty pricy . Remnants are usually the best buy if they have anyleft  from a larger project.
Most often they charge for the whole sheet if they use more than 75% of sheet. Round cut outs pay for the corners not used . I have built quite a bit out of Boone Mfg. bone pile .  :>)
If you can get patterns We can ...note WE as in you help  to get the project done   :)
