I had a great time at Mark Hampton's old stomping grounds (Show-Me-Safari's) this past weekend. I had intended on trying to get a blackbuck doe, but those things were way too elusive and anytime I saw some, they were hauling the mail much too fast for my Encore pistola.
Eventually in the late afternoon we spotted some Sika deer and I made a successful shot through the tree's and landed a good sized healthy female.
I've been wanting to hunt this ranch for about 20 yrs and finally made it happen. The lay of the property is pretty darn cool and I was not disappointed.
I had a shot on some beautiful fallow deer as the sun was setting but opted to possibly do that on another trip.
This was the 7th critter I got this season with a handgun and still have 1 more hog hunt in Okla. coming up next month. I'm pleased to say the least.
We hunted from this tower box blind first thing in the morning but didn't see anything so we resorted to safari style in the Mule til around noon. We got back into the box for the evening hunt and saw some fallow and blackbuck. I actually had shot opportunities on both but I was waiting for the other guy to shoot and he was too slow on the draw.
I ended up getting my Sika while hunting on the ground at 2PM. The shot was about 75 yds up an incline while in the prone position off the bipod. She fell where she stood. I was using a 7mm-08 barreled Encore. The bullet entered where the tip of my barrel is in the pic and exited between the 1st and 2nd rib on the offside.
We did cook some steaks while we were deboning back at home and they were delicious. It was a quick fry in a bit of oil in an iron skillet. I know I can do even better with 'em on the grill.
