Taurus MODEL 941 22 Mag (please only advise if you own one)
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:36:50 PM »
I have decided that I need a .22 mag.  I have read many pros and cons on Taurus quality ect.

What I would like to know from those who own and shoot this model is:

Does it seem like quality?  Please compare to Ruger or S&W
Is it accurate?
Do you like it overall?

Thank you as always for your help and advise.

What about if I used to own one but sold it cuz I couldn't hit a barn wall from inside the barn with it?

OK maybe it wasn't THAT bad but it was inaccurate enough to not be useable at 25 yards for much of anything smaller than five gallon buckets. Needless to say I'd not rate quality that high on the example I had.

In researching this firearm I have scoured the Net and published reviews.  The range of comments range all over the map with "highly INaccurate" and "Very accurate" being about 50/50.

Also the quality of other Taurus guns and the customer service and warrantee experience also runs wild from one side to the other.  That is why I asked only for this particular gun owners to comment.

I saw this gun and It looks great, but I will not by junk or inaccurate guns.  And in the realm of .22 mag pistols there is not much to chose.  There is the S&W, (too expensive)  The Ruger single six, (maybe but would like a double action.
It would be fine if the majority of people rate a thing one way or another, but this is very perplexing.
Is the quality and accuracy of the NEW guns better?

Perhaps others who have had this specific gun more recently than me will comment but in general I would say that the primary reason that comments are all over the place and especially that they are primarily at oppose of each other is that is the way Taurus quality is these days.

When they make a good one it seems to be a real good one. But when the mess up and they do VERY OFTEN they seem to really mess up big time.

I've heard a few folks claim good customer service as well but I have to wonder about those and how it came to be as for sure their level of customer service overall seems to stink. Read of Atlaw's adventures with them recently. I know I sure got so frustrated with them I gave up on Taurus guns completely which is a shame as there are several of their guns I'd really like to own if they'd make them right and back them with solid customer service. If they'd do that they could once again have a lot of my business as they once did back during that period when they made good guns.

Most dealers I've spoken with or have read comments from say Taurus CS is nearly nonexistent and that has surely been my personal experience as well.

I have yet to see a bad Raging Bull tho and have heard darn few comments on them being bad so they can make good guns if they want to.

[Does it seem like quality?  Please compare to Ruger or S&W] - You're dreaming.

[Is it accurate?] - As accurate as most other trail guns, I've ever owned - certainly acceptable.  None of the ilk are target pistols.

[Do you like it overall ?] - Yes.

Mine is the 5" model (the Pathfinder combo is a 4")

I bought these AFTER I had bought, then sold, a Ruger SP-101 .22 (waaay too heavy) - since I've never even HEARD of (nevermind actually seen) a S&W Kit Gun F/S in over 20 years.
