Omega Set Screws
« on: February 12, 2009, 02:58:31 PM »
It's been a day, and no one has responded to the question I asked yesterday...maybe because it's in one of the pinned posts that no one looks at routinely.  So I'll ask in a new thread.

I have an Omega, and I'm looking for the set screws that hold the trigger guard and breech plug pins in place.  The manual says these pins need to be loosened to get the pins out, and the same info is mentioned in the pinned post about Omega tools.  But I can't find the screws... can someone tell/show me where they are?

Thanks,

John

Do you have  copy of the owners manual?  Then we can go from there...

I had a very early Omega and the owners manual said nothing about the set screws. I only found them after almost destroying the pins by trying to drive them out without removing the set screws. If you have an X7 or one of the cheaper models it may not have any set screws. I think they saved money by just pinning the stuff together without any intention that someone could take it apart.

I do have the owners manual. It mentions the screws, but nowhere does it show where they are.  I thought it would be in the diagram on Page 9, but it isn't.

I have the basic model....blued in a black synthetic stock.  So it's possible that there are no screws after all?  If so, do I just drive those pins out to disassemble, or do I not disassemble?

Thanks,

John

Most of the newer ones have no set screws.  If they were there, they are pretty obvious when you inspect the housing around the screws.  I'd try lightly driving them out (support the action with cloth over wood or something) and see if they move.

My Omega X7 does not have the set screws either, even though an allen wrench for them was included in the manual packet.

Not pertinent to you question, but - why the heck do you want to disassemble the action?  If it's crudded up, just take the barrel & action out of the stock and spray the whole thing down with a can of carburetor cleaner or break cleaner, then re-oil.

It sounds like you have a Z5 model Omega and they do not have the set screws.... If you had them, one of them is very obvious in the swivel portion of the trigger guard.  If you open the trigger guard and look inside the guard in the middle of the pin you will see the set screw.
