new to me -older model T/C Contender
« on: February 26, 2009, 01:09:16 PM »
Picked this one up today. It has the right hand grip along with the 45 colt bbl with the screw in straight rifled insert in place in the bbl. for .410. I can not see shooting this gun in 45 colt without removing the insert. Is there something else that goes in where this insert is? Maybe a smoothbore insert? Have a call into T/C but no response as of yet. Looks like a real cottonmouth gun for here in south La. as far as 2 1/2" #9 is concerned. I'll be taking names and kicking b--- where they are concerned!

I used to have on like yours and Don't recall there being anything to put in place of the choke when shooting the .45 Colt.  I never really had a lot of accuracy shooting .45 out of that barrel but it was fun to shoot .410's through.  Not much range but up to about 15/20 yards it was good.

I'm from South LA also.  I live in Berwick LA where are you at?  I shoot my Contenders at the St. Mary Parish Sheriffs range.  I work overseas so I'm home for a month at a time.  Drop me a line if you ever want to do some shooting.

Just remove the screw in choke to plink with 45's (there is no insert).    It's a plinker barrel at best with the 45's.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Imakeoil,
I'm retired and living in the upper end of Pointe Coupee Parish on a working farm. Got the gun mainly for snakes and just tired of toting a shotgun. I got it with the 45/410 and scoped 22 Mag bbl for a price I could not pass up. Think it is going to come in handy.

;)  Good luck with it.  I know you will enjoy shooting it.  I like my contenders.
