I don't have info on loads for a 40gr as I shoot only 32gr v-maxs, but one thing I know --you will love that caliber!
Yesterday is history--tomorrow is a mystery--today is a gift!---That is why they call it the present!

My Contender 204 Ruger likes Hornady 45 grain Spire Points; not 40 grain bullets but close.

I have two of them, Contenders. One is a factory blued job and the other is a MGM SS both 23". I bought them to shoot pds with and they do it well. Never shot 40 gr. bullets but they handle the 32 gr. Vmaxs extremely well. Both are 1-12 twist. I have heard that some 1-12 twisted barrels won't shoot 40 gr. Vmaxs but I have no personal experience.

Mine is a Howa, but it does not like the 40gr v-max.  Groups them in 1 1/2 inches but with some flyers being 5 or 6 inches away.  Same gun will group the 32 gr v-max in a tad over 1/2 inch.  I have heard some will shoot the 45 gr sp since it is a shorter bullet than the 40 gr v-max but have not found a box to try yet.

Buy the Hornaday reloading manual - it has all the vmax bullet loads as well as others - you won't be sorry you did.
