Aperture Sight for Model 61 Winchester pump

I would appreciate some assistance in choosing the most suitable Aperture sight for my Model 61 pump.  I live in a remote region, and have to mail order such items and install them myself.  I'm not interested in scopes or red dot styles, just want a good peep sight from Lyman, Williams or Marble but need to know what model or style I would install on the highly curved top surface of the Model 61.  Perhaps there's a gunsmith or dealer out there that can help me with this? According to a vintage Lyman chart you need a #66 R 12 rear peep sight and a #3MF or 28MF taller front sight. The different numbers for the front sight have to do with the size of the bead.  #3MF=1/16", #28MF=3/32" diameter bead.  For my old eyes I would select the #28MF.  Most of the time you need the taller front sight when you install a rear peep sight. You may have to drill and tap your receiver to mount the rear sight.  If so you will need a #31 drill bit, a 6-48 tap and nerves of steel.  I did it to a model 92 Rossi and it wasn't all that hard. Just make sure you use lots of cutting oil when you drill and tap the stripped receiver.  It's best to drill in a drill press and use a tapping fixture or use the drill press manually to line the tap up straight.

Thanks Charles/NM.   I'm getting on this right away by first contacting Lyman to correlate those numbers.  That was all good advice, and just what I was looking for.  I sure do know what you mean about having good nerves while doing this stuff, but I like to shoot these great old guns and my ageing eyes need all the help they can get.

I'll let you know how I make out when things come together. :grin:
