In your comment on the .45 T/C topic, it appeared that you are indicating that T/C told you NOT TO USE BORE BUTTER even though it is their own product? Even though their own marketing recommends it? What was the reason T/C gave you? Also, why did they tell you to clean after each shot? Thanks.

They didn't give any reason for not useing the bore butter. All that was writen on the invoice that they sent back with the barrel was to use the 180gr. Mag Sabots and two 50 gr. pellets. No bore butter while shooting. and Field clean between shots. Thats all they put on the invoice, I don't know what thier reasoning is behind this. You would think that they would push the bore butter since it is thier product. I guess we will find out when I shoot it. Which will be real soon.

It is my understanding that TC mentions in their firearm books to NOT use bore butter when using sabots.

It isn't just T/C. ALL sabot mfgs will tell you not to use ANY lube with sabots. I thought that was commmon knowedge by now.

AGDEXTER, lubrication of any type is unnecessary with plastic sabot bullets. For one thing, the rifling is fairly shallow, and shallow rifling works better with low-to-no lube. The sabot is what grabs the rifling, and the plastic, since it's oil-based, needs no further lubricant.

Whatever powder you use, genuine BP, P'dex, 777, etc., is just the propellant. I used to shoot some high-power rifle, and lubrication in the bore is a huge problem with accuracy. The T/C Encore is really a modern firearm, even though people put bp or variants through it.

Lubricant in a high-power rifle bore causes more than just poor accuracy.

In .22 rimfires and BP rifles with relatively soft lead bullets, this is not as big a hazard.

In smokeless high-power calibers using jacketed bullets, the bullet-to-bore pressures are so high that excessive lubricant can actually buldge the barrel, ruining it. In severe cases, it leads to barrel ruptures.

Since before WWII the US Military documented many cases of barrel bulges near the gas port of the M1 Garand when fired in heavy rain. Apparently a few drops of water in the muzzle is enough to do this.

In the current service rifle (M16A2) and it's predecessor M16A1, firing during heavy rain or tropical conditions gives buldged barrels. Armourers occasionally replace service rifle barrels with these defects.
