Just bought a 7600 in .308 need source for bulk ammo
« on: February 11, 2009, 11:26:36 AM »
I am looking to buy a case of bulk .308 ammo - probably 1000 rounds. The ammo should be good enough to hunt deer but cheap enough for shoot em up practicing. I wouldn't mind once fired brass that has been reloaded professionally. If anybody has experience with a source please share it. I really don't have time for handloading myself right now. Thanks

Let me get this right.  You want good ammo, cheap ammo, bulk prices, a good hunting load, a good plinking load, reused ammo is OK, and probably 1 MOA in a 7600.  Do I have it right?

No you have it wrong. Maybe you should reread my post. I am looking for ammo that is "Good enough" to hunt deer. I didn't say anything about MOA. Last year I saw Bulk Ammo at a gunshow in 30-06 and .308 that was well under $1 a round. I went back this year and the vendor wasn't there. I believe it may have been once fired brass that had been reloaded. If anybody knows of a source of such ammo please share it. If your looking for a lame internet argument or if you don't know of such a source don't bother replying.

There isn't anything to be had in .308 that is cheap anymore.  If someone knows of some I would like to hear about it.  I recently ended up buying 1000 rounds of once fired brass and reloading it myself.  Total cost was about $500 when I got done.  I can't even find cheap .223 ammo any more.  >:(

Sadly I think that what you want and what is realistically available are two different things.

I would suggest you contact GBO Sponsor Ron Reed and see what kinda deal you can work out with him. He has about as good of prices and quality on reloads as I'm aware of.

Most bulk sources for .308 ammo have dried up and were not for hunting ammo to begin with but rather military type hard ball or FMJ ammo.

GBO Sponsor Midsouth Shooter's Supply has about as good of prices as anyone on factory ammo but they really aren't a bulk ammo supplier as such and while they do carry it for the .223 I'm not sure if they do for the .308. Still the chances of anyone having such bulk quantities of .308 in stock now are slim. It has gotten caught up in the panic buying going on out there now.

Cabela's is not a GBO sponsor but they do offer bulk deals on about every common round out there tho I have to say their bulk buy prices are seldom if ever any better than smaller quantity buys from most other sources other than they toss in an ammo can for it rather than box it up. They do however list bulk pricing on hunting type ammo as well as FMJ which is different than most.

Good luck on finding what you want. Other than those suggestions above I have no real help for you but will suggest you use Google to search very specifically for what you want. If it's on the internet that will bring it up. But expect to find it out of stock even if Google locates it for you.
