66 vs 669?

Can anyone give me a thumbnail sketch of the difference between the 66 and 669?

Here are the two a Mod 66 and the model 669 and quite frankly I can not tell the two appart myself.

I bought a 669 and 66 and the 669 had the full heavy lug barrel and the 66 had the short rib short lug barrel. Mine where 6 inch versions so I do not know if that makes a difference. My 669 resembled the 586 smith and the 66 resembled the 29 smith.
