Remington 3200 ?
« on: March 01, 2009, 06:43:22 AM »

Have come across a Remington 3200 over/under shotgun in a gun shop.

Where does the 3200 fit in the big scheme of things compared to the Browning Superposed or Citori, the Winchester 101, the Weatherbys, the Ithaca SKBs, etc ?

Thoughts and opinions on the 3200.

For many of us old timers there is none better. It's been a long long time since they were discontinued but many things in their design have never yet been improved upon. If it fits you then you'll find no better gun for skeet shooting.

I've never owned a trap model so am not sure how I'd like one of them really but those old 3200s are mighty fine skeet guns and should do equally well at sporting clays tho that game wasn't around when I last owned one so I've not tried it.

I shot my second 100 straight with one the first was with an 1100 and over all shoot them about as well as anything. I had one long ago that began life as a Modified/full field gun. I had the chokes opened to skeet and IC and danged if me and that old gun didn't work together as well as any I've owned both at doves and skeet. I played a lot of a money game we called cowpasture skeet back then also and I brought a lot of money home using it.

They are a very nice gun, similar in style and appearance to a Krieghoff, but should not be confused with a Krieghoff.  Remington 3200's suffer from two main problems, Forearm cracking, and soft receivers.  Laibs Gunsmithing purchased the remaiing stock of Remington 3200 parts, and specializes in their repair.   I'm sure they could tell you what to look for and what to avoid. http://www.laibsgunsmithing.net/index.html

I have a 12 ga. 3200 field model IC/M and really like it.  I think it's at least every bit as good as my, well actually my oldest girl's, 20 ga. Winchester 101 Skeet Model.

I had the trap model, very nice gun that I bought for shooting doubles. It just did not work out and traded it off after putting in a few $$ trying to make it better. Only problem I've every heard about the 3200 is it had to many parts in it's mechanism and it needed the up-gades done to eliminate some potential problems.
I shoot with a few guys that still use them and they swear by them as good shooters.
