Barrel weight question

Does anyone know the weight difference if a 24 inch stainless barrel and a 26 inch pro hunter barrel or mabey they are 28 inch in 25-06. Do you think one would shoot any better than the other?

I'm intersted in this also. I just bought a new pro hunter. The more I carry it , the more unhappy I am about the weight and balance.  I look forward to hearing what other shooters have to say.

Your best bet would be to call T/C.

For anyone to answer your question, they would have to have unmounted barrels in both lengths and would have to weigh them for you.  Common sense would indicate that the weight of 2 inches of distal steel barrel with a hole in it isn't going to make much of a difference in weight or handling.

Then you should take the advice given and call TC.  I think highly of the folks on this board, but don't think anyone would remove their scopes and mounts just to give you an answer.  Odds are that no one has both barrels in as shipped condition laying around.

Not to mention the amount of steel removed in fluting on pro hunter! I have both and only differance I can tell is how far Encore slides down saddle scabbard.

I was hoping to hear feel not actual weight.  I am knew to the Encores and have two Prohunter barrels.  Are they the same diameter as the 26" heavy barrels?

They are the same diameter and no I can't tell the difference between the two when shooting. Balance and weight feels the same to me if there is any difference it's minimal. I have Pro Hunter 28" 270 win. 300 mag. and a Heavy 26" 22-250

I am thinking of buying a heavy 30-06 or 308 and cutting it down to 22" for a tree stand setup.

If you're going to cut it down, don't get a fluted Pro Hunter barrel or you'll have the weirdest looking barrel in your State.

I have a 28" Prohunter in 300 WM that I am very pleased with, but I want to add something unique to my collection and I really favor short/light carbines.  And four to six inches doesn't sound like much, but when I am 20' up in a hemlock, it does.

I've been thinking I would like a shorter barrel around a 20" 308 calling it my saddle/brush gun!
But as part of my tharapy I had to admit to myself just another excuse to by another barrel!

I just got a PH barrel and can tell you that it is a LOTof barrel.I also have barrels in 6.8,and 270,24" in both.
A big dif in carrying as the PH is ballenced to the front a lot,compaired to the others.That being said,you get used to it in short order.Real happy with mine so far.I jus have to work up a load for it and all will be good.pan.
