got me a boar with the 223

just  came  in    and  got  me  a  decent  boar weighed  225  o  a  cattle scale.  rifle  ws  a  nef  223 remington  55gr soft points  I  was  in  a  tree  stand  when  I  seen  him  and  some  sows pigging  out  on  some rotten  soured  corn  i  hit  him  about  65 yards  as  he  dropped  hs  head  to  get  another  moughtful  hit  him  right  in  the  center  of  the  neck  droped  and  never  moved.  I  dont  hink  that  the  223  is  the  best  choice  but  if  it  is  the only  rfle  a  man  has  it  will  do  in   pinch  as  log  as  you  place the shots right abd  dont  take  a  shoulder shot.   ill  have  my  45-70 monday   and   i  believe  i will  test  it  out on  a  decent  boar  that  i  seen.  i  am  going  to  try  the  300 gr  first  on  a  shoulder  shot  open  sided  ill  move  my  stand  a  little  closer  to  where  i bait  ill keep  yall posted

It's just an opinion now, but you don't really have to go to the trouble of souring your corn. Once the pigs find it, they will return, if you feed on a regular basis. I have found that a little feed, regularly distributed, is more effective in drawing hogs, than a lot of feed on an irregular basis. Check out  http://www.texasboars.com/  and see what they have to say. They also have some interesting scents, but I haven't tried them...YET!>>>>Bug.

I  will  try  that  as  it  is  sure  messy   to  make  and  I  have  seen  that  site   it  is  a  good  site  and  i  would  like  to try  that  sow  in heat

I agree with Bug.  When we hunt in Texas, we spead out a bag of corn every day.  When the hogs get used to it, then they don't travel very far.

The same thing applies with corn feeders.  Both deer and hogs get used to it and, when the feeders goes off every morning and afternoon, it's kinda like a dinner bell and they all get to the corn. (Granted, deer HATE hogs.  As such, the deer usually get there first and start eating very fast. When the hogs come, then the deer leave.)
