Cut off my Savage 219 barrel
« on: September 19, 2009, 11:28:42 AM »
I have owned my Savage 219 for 53 years. Have used it every deer season that I owned it. Lost count of the number of deer killed with it.
Amonth or so ago I saw one at a gun show that the barrel had been cut down to 20 inches. Boy did it feel good, a 219 carbine! I liked that.
Ever siince I've been wanting to cut mine off but just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Two hours ago I went out to the shop, got a hacksaw and cut it off. Filed the end flat, no crown.
Took it to the range and it shoots just as it allways has. Wish I had done it years ago!!
I know, I know ruined the value but it won't be for sale until after I am gone.

I have one too-in 30/30 but never have hunted with it,mainly due to my eyes.It has a ghost ring peep sight, but I couldn't focus on the front sight, so I installed a tru-glo front sight, which I can at least see. What caliber is yours?[I'd like to get my hands on a 20 guage barrel and a 22 hornet but they seem pretty scarce]

Mine is a 30-30. I had a hornet but could never get it to shoot to my satisfaction,so I sold it.
The 30-30 shoots very well. I have a 4x Redfield on it.
