Here's a few photos of a thunder mug I built. It has a 2.5" bore.

Dom, I like all the stuff you make. I also collect old thundermugs as you may know. Some day you might try making a large thundermug with a wider base, more like the old ones, even if the base had to be welded or threaded on for economy of stock. If I were going to make one I'd probably turn the base separately, then join it to the main body with a couple of short countersunk bolts coming up through the base so any visible joint nice and even with no weld. One old one I have that weighs nearly 50 lbs. still only has as I recall about a 2" bore, someone must have found that's the largest bore you need. Heck, with yours, you could launch the Coors beer cans, filled with concrete, dang near into orbit. Hopefully if you do that you'll use a fairly long fuse and get well away from the launcher, like we do for our heavy-duty anvil launcher. We send our 110-lb. anvil up to about 500 feet.

Good idea. I think I'll start bolting a base on some of them, thanks for the advice. I got my interest in thunder mugs from watching your Youtube videos. Keep the videos coming!

since this is such a short piece you could probably just turn your compound at a small angle and make a short taper. Wider at the bottom and smaller at the mouth

How high will the 'light duty' anvil launcher send it?

How does your launcher work? I thought you just fill the base of the anvil with powder and set it on a steel plate.

How did the coyote do it in the roadrunner cartoons?

I have a piece steel that is odd shaped
I have a lathe sitting on the floor of the garage
I have wires hanging out of a box for 220

We have a special launcher made out of a approx. 300 lb. Navy WWII 8-inch gun breech plug. The hole in it is about 5" diameter and has a shoulder at bottom, so we just drop a thick aluminum plug in there to make it gas-tight. We put in 2 lbs. of FFFG powder, a wad, then fill to the top with sand so there won't be any empty space. Then we made a "gasket" out of play dough, not sure it does any good but we do it anyway. An original grease fitting hole through the side of the breech plug is where we put the long fuse. We measure total time of flight with stopwatch and a formula gives us the height the anvil reached. We don't have a light duty anvil system yet. The range we used in the video doesn't let us do the anvil anymore, too many noise complaints from neighbors a half mile away.

that is a sweet thndermug. What are the specs like weight and max powder charge. Is that one louder than the smaller one? are you planning on putting that one in yopur product line? If so how much? would it take to have one made.

That looks sweet! Should make your knee heal faster. I have some small dia rod ends laying around that I would send if I knew where to send them. FC360 It would great to get the feel of that lathe with.

I weight the thunder mug today and it's 45 lbs. Ray, I am planning to have a large thunder mug available on the website. It's much louder than the golf ball T mug. Maximum charge is 2000 grains cannon grade. I will probably sell them for 275 dollars plus shipping in the design you see above and a slightly higher price for one with a wide base. BoomJ, The bolt on handle is because the steel is 4140. Exellent barrel material, not the best to weld on. Dom

Louder always good. Time to save my spare change. Hmm 3 1/2 shots per pound of powder. Only issue the place where I got my powder closed down and I have to find another place to get my Goex
