Value of Remington model 582 bolt action
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:52:46 AM »
One of the local pawshops has a Remington 582 bolt action rifle on the rack. It is in "fair" condition. What would you guess the value at? BTW they are asking $75. Thanks, Charlie

It's easily worth that likely a fair bit more.

Yes, buy it now.  These are great rifles, I have one untouched and one converted to .22 Hornet, they have very strong actions and are easy to convert to CF.  Larry

To late. I guess someone thought the same thing about the value. I need to act on my first instinct more. Charlie

I bought one of those new in the mid 70's. It was an excellent rifle. Very accurate! I owned it for about 10 years and foolishly traded it. Still regret that move.

It would behoove us all to have at least a general idea of the value of firearms and other things as well for that matter that we might have some interest in owning. Then when you see something offered up for sale at a real bargain price as this particular rifle was you must act IMMEDIATELY to take it if it is something you might want.

Buying just because an item is priced reasonably in my opinion isn't good policy but if it is a truely under priced bargain on which a profit can easily be turned later then it isn't an unwise move either. But you must be able to recognize a bargain when you see it and act then and not go asking questions and thinking on it if you want it.

When I go to gunshows I normally have some general idea of why I'm there. There is a list of things at least in my head if not on paper that I am looking for. Way back in the far reaches of my mind might be a few others I've long wanted but kinda set aside for lack of opportunities to find them. When I run across something on that list and it is a bargain price I don't walk away to think on it and hope it will be there when I return. Same applies to what I find in gunshops. If it's a bargain and it is something I want I do not set it down until I have purchased it.

I learned the hard way long long ago that setting down a real bargain to think about it later is bad policy. Same for an item you really really want badly even if it's not a bargain but has been hard to locate. When you do locate it get the best price you can but take it home regardless of whether it's a bargain or not.
