357 handi bullets

soon i will have a 357 handi too,i have a barrel coming via trade. I was looking at some Winchester load data and it got me thinking about bullets. When you shorten a barrel you lose some velocity, the other side is when you lengthen a barrel you gain velocity. My data lists a 158 jacketed pistol bullet at 1500-1600 fps(8 3/4 " pistol barrel).Not sure how much faster it will go in a 22" rifle barrel,but i'm wondering if there's a point where a jacketed pistol bullet will fail due to too much velocity. What kind of bullets are you guys using on game animals(deer,etc)?

  The 158's are usually just fine and your not able to get them going too fast. I shoot them in my Maxi at over 2000 and that is about the max for 158's. If you go SP instead of HP, you get a bit tougher bullet.

IMHO, the Hornady XTP FP is TOPS for the 357 Mag on deer sized game!!

 In my Maxi, I like the 180's and have shot a bunch of deer with them. HP's generally atay inside, SPs 50% of the time make it out. But remember this is @ about 2200 FPS. I no use the 180 SSP and 180FP made for single shot pistols and 35 Rem rifles with very good results. I reciently picked up the Hornady FTX 200 sp bullet. but have yet to shoot any . I anticipate good things. Again, this is in my Maxi.

 YES its going great!!  I am returning to work on the 2ND and progressing very well. The weight is falling off me, (Down 40 lbs) my doc says everything with my heart is 110% and I am easily adjusting to the new diet! I feel really really good.

Sorry, I forgot to post about the bullets, got so excited about the good news on ya CW.  I have always had very good luck with the Hornady 158 FP out of the rifle tube.  Most all have been pass-thru's with deer, but I like to aim for the "Big Middle" as Jack O'Conner would say.  Heart, lung, liver shots just plain work and doesn't mess with the meat.  DP
