Hello everyone
Well I and my family recently lost my grandfather to a long long fight against bone cancer and diabeties. He was the most influential person i had in my life and i would like to reflect on him a little bit. \\
Elly Webster Coates was born in 1923 in Louisiana. He was born into a sharecroppers family and would eventually have 4 other brothers and 2 sisters. He is proceeded in death by his mother and father, his "little sister" who died very young, and 2 brothers. He is a decorated veteran of WW2. He was in the 101st artillery, and when he wasnt using artillery he was building runways. He won ribbons from the pacific theatre, the european theatre, the Phillipine liberation ribbon, the bronze star and several others. He was wounded twice, once trying to escape from the Japanese who were overrunning the island he was on.
This man was the most honest man I ever knew.
I personally never knew him to ever even stretch the truth. He had a keen sense of humor and was a devout believer in Christ.
His many many friends who attended his funeral all told stories about him and his honesty. He worked as a mechanic after WW2 and worked until the age of 81 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
If you didnt want to know what he thought about something you had better not ask him because you were about to be schooled in his thoughts.
He taught me that a man was only as good as his word. And if you didnt have your word you didnt have anything.
This world is surely a worse off place without is, but Heaven is rejoicing. I look forward to joining him there.
I miss him dearly, but I know he is better than i can ever be in this world.
