I know, your saying he has another question....*L*

When I got my revolver I looked at it purty close and the timing "seemed" to be dead - on. After a box of 100 round balls I can see scratches on the cylinder, the indentations on the cylinder have real shiny marks just before the trigger bolt spring engages the cylinder notch. It seems to be just slightly out of time?

IS this just a matter of polishing the right mating surfaces within the guts of the gun? IS this something a car mechainic can do OR is this a job for the pros?

Thanks for your patients with all my questions....

If the mark is "just before" the cut, don't worry about it.  The Remington has no leade cut in the notch as do most other cylinders to ease the bolt in, so it marks it.  As long as it doesn't drop halfway between the notches, all is fine.

Flint is right on there. I don;t even look at mine much, becuase they are less than new looking after so many cowboy matches and all. What I do look for everytime I clean and put away is lead on my top strap. That was what I was getting when they were new, from the hand being too high. A file and some dressing up with a stone has cured that. I do have scrape marks on my cylinders too, but not a problem. You should see my ROAs. I have the ruger scrape all around the cylinders. I don't care, I use 'em for shooting and all I want is reliability and performance. I could care less about looks.
Have you pards ever checked out the SCORRS website? It cost nothing to look or join up either. There are some good tips there and nice pics too.

I am fortunate to live within a couple of miles of Papa Bear the prez and he has been shooting rems for ages. He shot skirmishes and rendevous long before he discovered CAS and he has helped me tremendously in getting my rems to total reliability and performance. :-)

Say Flint, that's exactly where this mark is. Just before the notch reaches the trigger bolt spring is where this mark on my cylinder is, less than 1/8" of an inch before it falls into place on the cylinder.

I'm kinda like you Howdy, as long as its designed that way and performs like it should then I could care less what it looks like.

Thanks guys, all is well in 1858 land again....
