Model 70
« on: February 15, 2009, 02:52:40 AM »
Just picked up a model 70 classic sporter 25-06 and the Greensboro,NC gun show. The stock has a few dents in it but the walnut stock is otherwise beautiful. Serial # G2410427 what year do you think? It has the claw extractor. Paid $400. Is that about right? Any problems with Winchester rifles around this time frame?

Thanks

CWT,

According to a person (on another forum) that dates Model 70s for fellow forum members, the "G24" in your number would place your M70 as a post 2002. I think $400.00 was a great price. You'd be very lucky to get that price on any of the auction sites.

You're Welcome CWT. Sorry I couldn't be more specific about the date, but I was going by what the fellow on the other forum had said and "post 2002" is how he answered another person with a similar number to yours.

CWT, GREAT snag!  Wow!  Hope it works out for you!  Based on other Classics I personally own, I would say that your rifle was manufactured in 2002.

Just read on another site that 2003-2006 M70's had a lot of problems although it has yet to be stated what kind of problems. Can anyone add in insight to this?

Just an update on this rifle. Mounted an old 4X Redfield and shot 20 rounds Sat. Shot about 1MOA in and fairly stiff and changing wind. I think she is a keeper. Shot my custom 7mm-08 also with the same results. It is usually better than 1/2 MOA.
