Range experience
« on: March 02, 2009, 05:33:49 PM »
I was planning on getting a survivor in 308 but have not yet, I was wondering what is the extent of their range in your experience.  I have been getting very interested in long range target shooting and was wondering if this would be a good gun to start with, for this purpose.  Thanks.

How far are you looking at shooting? The survivor has a bull barrel.
I would think it would do just about anything you would want it to
once you got it tuned up per the F.A.Q.'s.

If you are going to do long range target shooting buy a bolt gun, a Handi is not what you are looking for.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

X2  There are other guns better suited for that. Now if you're not all that serious about it and just want to practice at long distances give it a try.

To be honest, once you pick up on the basic concept of LR shooting, if your survivor groups less than 1moa, you should be fine.

Start off w/ a .22lr.  Learn how the distance, and wind effect your shot and how to adjust.

Then get out your .308.  I use pallet linings (4'x4' cardboard) and space them out at 100 yard intervals.  Out to about 500 yards if possible.  Zero your rifle for about 300 yards.  Then find out how high it shoots at 100 and 200.  Learn how to read the wind and adjust for it.  You'll have a good time.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
