Got my new Handi
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:31:21 AM »
;D I must say I am very impressed! Had one 15 years ago and was quite happy with it, but it appears the quality of manufacture , fit and finish have improved noticeably. I'm guessing a 2008 production ( HY prefix) and she's a standard barrel .223. Loaded up some 50 gr V-Max's over 27 gr BL-C2 in Federal cases. OAL 2.30. These things have deep throats! She slugs at .218 bore and .2235 groove that's perfect to me. her trigger's not bad, a clean 4 1/2 pounds. My last experience with a Handi was heartbreakingly positive.I had to sell her...damn mortgage  :'((Anyway, I'm hoping for similar results.  I've heard and read about not using 5.56 Nato in .223's and I understand that H&R warns against this. However, my Handi didn't come with the paper warning . Given that the throat on this rifle is definately deeper than most civi .223's and the bump to  a 1-9 twist, has H&R changed their minds? 5.56 doesn't really interest me much , except for the brass which is both cheap and very durable. Its good to have  Handi again. Now extra barrels... ::)

Surplus brass is ok just load to 223 specs. Start from the beginning and work up as case capacity's differ. Stick with .223 and things seem to work better. Also spend some time in the FAQ'S great reading. welcome back on the wagon

Welcome Back!  I have never enjoyed a firearm or been as proud to own one as my Handi!  I have guns with all kind of features but the old single shot keeps you honest and you kinda establish a "love affair" with these guns!

 Good luck. Marv
