Difference between a Valmet model 412 and 412S ??
« on: April 30, 2009, 01:34:11 PM »
I just bought a Valmet 412S in 243Win/12G and it it on its way. I am also looking at another Valmet in 222Rem/12G on a gun dealer's web site but it only has 412 marked on the side.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the model 412 and 412S?

I have added double triggers to both the 412 and 412S and cant tell any difference in springs, design etc..  However, there are those that state the 412S is better.  I like both the 412 and 412s.

If your looking for .222 ammo check with Ron Reed at www.reedsammo.com he made me some great Berger 60gr and Hornady V-Max 55gr ammo that is fantastic and a great price.

If the price is reasonable on the .222/12 I suggest you buy it, that is one of the best varmint combos available.

Did the Valmets come with the 412 scope mount?

Thanks for the info Doug.

I am up here in Canada and the asking price for the .222REM/12G is $650 CDN. There is a big price spread on real Valmet 412 up here.

Here are some prices for different calibers of Valmet 412s that I have located so far.

.243Win/12G  $899
.222Rem/12G  $650
30-06/30-06 with a second barrel 12G/12G and scope mount $2200
9.3x74R/9.3x74R   $1849

There is a whole bunch of Valmets (Savage 2400) in .22 Savage HP/12G range in price from $350 to $595. But this dealer calls them Valmet 412. he also has Tikka, Brno Voere, and others combo guns.

Unfortunately the 2 Valmets mentioned does not come with scope mount.

I currently have a Valmet (Savage 2400) in .308WIN/12G and a Brno ZH301 in 7x57R/12G

There's a HUGE amount of difference between the Savage 2400's and the 412's, your dealer is misrepresenting the 2400's...

As for the 412 and 412S, it all depends on who you talk to...   ::)

Have you seen the 412 vs 2400 post http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,132858.0.html

The 12/222 is a very good price for a 412.

Welcome to the club.  You should thank Drilling Man for that very fact based and informative comparison.

Let me know if you need the 412 manual.
