New to Me DW 22
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:39:14 AM »
Just picked a Monson 8" VR in 95% condition about an hour ago.

Yes,  I will post pic's and let you know what I think of it as soon as I get to shoot it.

So, I have a few questions.

1.  What is it worth?
2.  Will medium frame barrel shrouds interchange? (can you use a shroud off a .357 on a .22?)
3.  What is the easiest way to mount a scope on one?
4.  Anybody have a 6" shroud they want to get rid of?
5.  Where is the best place to find grips?  I really like the smooth non finger grove grips on the large frame.

Thanks

Dave

The base price on the 22's is $350 and can fetch more depending on stainless or blue, barrel length and condition.  The 22, 32 and 357 shrouds are interchangeable, as they were all milled on the same dies.  Check Ebay for grips, they come up for auction off and on, it's about all they sell besides tools and holsters now.  Check Gunbroker and Auctionarms for prices on current listings for an idea of current market price.  You also might want to check out danwessonforum.com.  Welcome to the world of Dan Wesson, they're great guns.

I don't know if the shrouds are interchangeable.  I tried some shrouds from a 357 on a 22 and they didn't fit.  Either the locating pin was in a different place, or there was enough variation in the shrouds that they weren't a close enough fit.

Some shrouds have 2 locating pins, just remove the offending one.
